The idea would be to preserve the Greenhouse Effect but allow convection. The Greenhouse Effect is that infrared radiation from the sun would initially be strong enough to get through the glass and hit the air and plants inside. At night, however, having used up a lot of its energy, the photons emitted back towards the sky would not be able to pierce the glass and so would stay inside, keeping the air warm there. This would remain pretty true even if there were lots of little holes, and even more if the passages to get out were twisty, so the photons would have to keep bouncing off the sides and losing energy.

 The greenhouse would be deficient in the other and bigger warming effect: prevention of convection. In a regular greenhouse, air is trapped in the greenhouse and when it is warmed, it doesn't escape and get replaced by cold air from outside. Thus, when the sun warms the air, the warmth stays inside instead of just mixing with the entire atmosphere. In the convecting greenhouse, air can drift through the holes, even though the infrared rays have to travel in straight lines and are struck inside.
 Thus, the convecting greenhouse wouldn't work very well. It's use is for better understanding global warming. The Earth is like the convecting greenhouse. Infrared rays going back into space at night hit carbon dioxide and water molecules and are kept on earth. But air molecules warmed by the rays drift into space via convection.

 Safes and fireproof boxes ought to have a radio signal emitter inside that is triggered by the heat of a fire. Perhaps one heated by motion would also be good, that can be turned off after you have finished moving the safe to where you want it, using a simple code.
