On Twitter it's a mistake to try to argue with someone either much smarter and better informed than your or someone less smart and worse informed. The format isn't good when basic ideas need to be taught to a slow or unwilling mind. Also, most people just want to talk, not hear.

To be sure, it's also a good format for answering questions about facts or correcting people. I don't want to discourage discussion in a spirit of goodwill, even if one party knows more than the other.
