General
The file rasmusen.org/rasmapedia/localsettings.php is where a lot of settings are determined.
The logo image that appears at the top left of each pages is at $wgResourceBasePath/resources/assets/wiki.png, where $wgResourceBasePath/ is the rasmusen.org/rasmapedia/ directory. I reset it to $wgResourceBasePath/EricRasmusen2007.jpg.
How do I install Mediawiki?
You need a Unix server, I think. I use Dreamhosters. Official installation instructions are here. First, go to the Mediawiki website at https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Download and download the zip file to your PC. Then extract, unzip, it to be a directory. Then, upload that directory to http://rasmusen.org or whatever your server is. Rename the top directory from someting like W3.221 to rasmapedia2.
Then go to dreamhosters.com, my host server company, and log in. Go to WEBSITES and that will open up a menu with a way to create a new MYSQL database. Create one called rasmapedia2database. Make the user erasmuse. Don't create a new password. The hostname is http://jan4.rasmusen.dreamhosters.com/.
Then go to your new wiki in your browser--- say, http://rasmusen.org/rasmapedia2. The setup script will run automatically and ask you questions. I had a lot of trouble connecting to the database just created. I think the key was to insert the IP number for my laptop in the same box as %.dreamhosters.com. If you set it up as a "private wiki", then only users can view and edit.
Later I had to change $wgSessionCacheType to $wgSessionCacheType = CACHE_DB; in localSettings.php.

Permissions
I have it set up so nobody can register. An administrator has to do it. Aunt Mary and I are administrators. erasmuse. To register someone, go to Special pages, then Create New Account, halfway down. THen just give them a name and type their password in a couple of times.
To read-protect a page, try the Lockdown extension. The security level is not super-high.
Miscellaneous
- Mediawiki:common.css is the page on which to put formatting commands for all rasmapedia pages.
- Template: quotation is a page that will format quotations on page X if
{{{1}}}
is put on page X and Template:Quotation goes here. I need to figure out where templates go-- I have forgotten. See Words.
- https://wikiapiary.com/wiki/Extension:Extensions has extensions.
