“The Squid and the Knight”, a story by Benjamin

Sunday, November 25th, 2007

Once there lived a brave knight.  He fought lots of battles. His armor was as spiky as a dinosaur.  His sword was as hard as a star. He was braver than his enemies. He had a humble squid (later revised to “Humboldt” squid.). It fought on the water battles.  It could glow in the dark.  Once there was a battle with a shark. The shark almost bit the Humboldt  squid but the Humboldt squid couldn’t eat it so it killed the shark. And once the knight fought a battle with the Romans. But there was a village of invading Gauls that fought the Romans.

A Trip to the Ashmolean Museum

Sunday, November 25th, 2007

Today we went to the Ashmolean. There’s a new Ancient Egypt section that has not been there before. (Amelia is writing this, Dad typing.) There’s a very weird cat mummy and snake mummy. It is kind of queer to have animal mummies. In another section we saw a human mummy. It had three sarcophagus’s. The first one was very boring. The second one was a bit more detailed. And the third one was pretty cool. (sorry ,we didn’t take any photos.)

Elizabeth: It was very fun. I really liked the jewels and the rings.

Dad: Mother dropped us off and went with Faith to a party Eve H. was having at her house in Headington. We took a break in the middle and had some Genoa Cake and cheese potato chips from Sainsbury’s for a snack, eaing them next to St. Michael’s Anglo-Saxon church, the oldest building in Oxford, and then bought light bulbs at Boswell’s. Afterwards, we waited for Mother next to the Randolph Hotel. Ben and Lilli had fun trying to perch on slanting windowsills, and Lizzie and Amelia played a sort of hopscotch. Then we all went to a Burger King in Cowley, far away, but a nice car ride and an easy meal.

Guy Fawkes Day

Sunday, November 18th, 2007

On the Saturday before Guy Fawkes Day, Dad, Amelia, Benjamin, and Lizzie went to Wolfson College for the fireworks over the lake there. Amelia’s friend Nina was there too, with her parents. The children liked running up and down the grassy slopes. Some places have big bonfires, but we didn’t try going to one of those.
