Elizabeth’s 8th birthday last Friday was a pleasant day. She chose Paddyfields Chinese restaurant for dinner, and we had a cake at home.

The summer solstice was a big day for us. Amelia went to Joy’s birthday party in the morning. In the early afternoon was the Phil and Jim Summer Fete. In the late afternoon was the North Korea recital.

We went to The Anchor pub on Hayfield Road afterwards and had a good dinner. Helen, Faye, and Hannie stayed later, but Dad went home with the children. Lillie spotted a badger two houses down from us, and we tried to get it to come out from under a car.

We went to Portsmouth again. Mom practiced with Faye for the recital while Dad took the rest (except for Faith). First, though, we all went to the Royal Armoury in Portchester again.

Samuel C. invited us to a garden party at Worcester College (next to Nuffield, on the Canal) that he said was good for kids. He was quite right, though only our children and his (Gabriel and Julianna) were there.

Eric.D. invited Mom and Dad to St. Catherine’s for High Table one Tuesday. St. Catz has the biggest hall in either Oxford or “the other place.”
