An Election Poem, November 24, 2000/January 17, 2001

There once was a voter named Chad.
A dimple was all that he had.
Lawyers were sent
To divine his intent:
"He's for Gore -- but only a tad."

Then the lawyerly host raised a wail:
"Let the will of the people prevail!
We will ponder and squint
To discern any hint
Except if it comes through the mail."

Now come the thoughtful Supremes:
"The statute is fuzzy, it seems.
'Seventeenth' reads the text
Leaving us quite perplexed --
'Twenty-sixth' must be what it means."

-- Alex Raskovich, erstwhile economist
