November 8, 2003. ש Supporting Evil: UNICEF and Public Radio.

UNICEF has been given as patronage to an American liberal, who has ruined it, National Review tells us. For example:

UNICEF now seeks to boost girls' school enrollment -- calling this endeavor its first priority -- without any mention of boys' enrollment. In sub-Saharan Africa, where UNICEF claims that 27 percent of boys and 22 percent of girls attend school, only the girls' rate is worthy of attention, because it is lower than the boys' own dismal rate.
With UNICEF, as with public radio, it is not only okay to refrain from making donations; it is immoral to give to it, unless you agree with the positions the organization is pushing.

I was just thinking about public radio, actually, in light of the $200 million that Mrs. Kroc has given them. I wish she had donated the money straight to the Democratic Party instead, because the effect would be less insidious. And I say this note despite but because when I listen to the radio I like to hear news and classical music. Right now, that means I listen frequently to public radio. But if our public radio station were to close down, it might be replaced by a classical music station. If it does not close down, no such station is going to start, becuse there definitely is not room in Bloomington for two classical stations. So I don't think of public radio as being what gives me access to classical music. Rather, it is what blocks my access to classical music that doesn't have several hours daily of anti-American political content.
