BROWSER
I write this in Movable Type 2.something and Mozilla. If it doesn't look good in Internet Explorer, please email me at [email protected]. E-MAIL
I read all my emails, but I am often very slow in replying, and sometimes I lose track. In particular, I have a backlog from the huge outpouring of positive and negative sentiment around October 2003 regarding some of post on the topic of homosexuality. I apologize to anyone I've missed-- and I'll still get back to you, I hope. But I think I've lost about 100 emails-- probably accidentally deleted. Do keep in mind that email is *not* a reliable form of communication, any more than messages on telephone answering machines, because accidental deletion is easy, and because I often get into huge backlogs. Paper letters at least pile up on a desk.
COMMENTS
I've just put in a comment feature, having moved to Moveable Type software
instead of using raw HTML. I like much of
what Professor
Drezner has
to say about interaction with readers:
I don't know if I'll read every comment, because I'm not sure if my software
will notify me properly of all of them, but I'll at least express my desire to
do so.
1) I read every e-mail sent about the blog and every comment posted on the
blog.
2) I won't necessarily reply to every e-mail message or respond to every
posted query.
3) The likelihood of my replying has a lot more to do with how busy I am
than with the content of your message.
4) I'm truly sorry for the non-responses.
5) Unless otherwise indicated, I will not attribute any quote from any e-
mail on the blog.
6) When it comes to the comments feature, remember that I control the
horizontal and the vertical. I will delete comments that I think are personally
insulting, completely off-topic from the post, or so incoherent as to pass all
understanding. My space, my rules.
If your emails are threatening or use obscenities, I will not feel obliged to reply. If you make comments of that kind, I'll delete them unless I want to use them as illustrations.
I have a sort of trackback search feature installed, though I'm not sure if it's working, but if you want to just give the address of a weblog posting as a comment, that's fine and would please me.
I might later adopt a policy of deleting comments I think are boring or repetitive-- that is, of acting as an editor-- but for now I won't do that.
When I quote, I will use "..." to indicate omitted material if I leave out parts of sentences and to show that intervening sentences exist within a paragraph or intervening paragraphs within an extended quote. I won't use "..." if I just drop earlier or later paragraphs or sentences.
I will use "[the]" if I insert the word "the" into a quote.
I will often but not always make "hat tip" links and mentions to blogs at which I discover good links to ultimate sources. I will tend to that most often for lesser-known blogs, figuring that Instapundit and Best of the Web don't need what little encouragement I can give them.
This weblog is not intended to stand as an "Intellectual History of Eric Rasmusen," so I will change entries freely if I discover additions or mistakes, usually not bothering to note the changes.
