Amelia’s Rules for Writing
- Use imagery instead of adverbs.
- Don’t write like you know everything.
- Write true sentences.
- Be an interesting person.
- Be aware of what you imply and that everything implies something.
- Borrow from other authors – preferably dead ones.
- Use repetition, alliteration and such artificial devices sparingly.
- Hide yourself as the narrator; reveal yourself at your own risk.
- The more brutal the advice, the more open you should be to it.
- And remember, almost all things in moderation.
