Dear readership,
I recently had the opportunity to interview a fantastic person named Ben. He’s my brother; wise for his age. You might want to read what he has to say about the incoming season.
Amelia: What does summertime mean to you?
Ben: It means freedom.
Amelia: Freedom from what?
Ben: Freedom from school, and having to do homework, and waking up early… all that sort of stuff.
Amelia: I agree.
It is summer. Have the time of your lives in the sunshine, burning your skin to lobster red and cutting your bare feet on rocks at the lake. Using your freedom.
So. . . text your friends,
bring caboodle,
drive your cars and take the poodle.
Soak in sun, and ice, and smiles,
Burning all your homework files.
Summer is a chance to begin to know the beginning of people – their bare edges, and sometimes past the surface. Once you get a hold of the beginning (or the end) you can unravel the rest. As Ben says, summertime means freedom – and you’d be surprised at how different people act once they’re freed. So hang out with some new people, strengthen your ties with old friends, and have a sweaty, liberated time running wild.
Farewell,
Amelia
