Love is about the act of loving, a type of loving that is not depleted and does not discriminate in where it shines. It is not a love that makes people into projects, but a world-encompassing joy. It is a jar that never runs out because its source is the Father, the Fount of Every Blessing from whom the waters of life flow. He is the bread of life. He is the stream that the panting deer runs to, the place where its knees buckle that it may refresh its swollen tongue. Everything else is diluted, tainted, poisoned, deceptive. The best actions done with the worst intentions or the worst actions done with the best intentions. Only in God is all made one in incomprehensible simplicity. When I go to be with the Father, the struggle to unite head and heart, body and soul, will finally end. Meanwhile, in this struggle mundi, I must feed myself by emptying myself, because only by emptying myself will I be having faith in God to fill me up again. Loving others, O Lord, is loving You.
And the reward? You make it one song, one dance, and You are Lord of the Dance. Without You, we see as reflected in the shards of a shattered mirror, bits and pieces of truth, but never an entirely coherent picture. With You, it all makes sense. With You, it no longer has to make sense, because You are, and You love, and You are Love. Oh, my Lord, to know you is everything. Your Word reveals your self to me, as I read of your awesome deeds, your constancy, your love, and it leads me to trust that if those people could trust in you, I can follow in the path they cleared. Through your Word, I can know what you want me to know, and wonder why. I can look down and see your hand and know that your hand works in our part of the picture just as it did in Elijah’s, that our epoch of the story has meaning too. I see the fate of the wicked. You tell me what you love and what you hate. And Lord, once I know you, I cannot resist. You work miracles in our hearts, Lord. You send your Spirit. You listen to my prayers.
Lord, true love and faith are not blind at all. Their eyes are wide open – and they see light.
